Picked this and #47 up after NARAM, too late to fly, but will certainly hoard until I spot a worthy young modeler to donate it to. I missed out on rocketry as a child, but am thoroughly enjoying my second childhood as a late-blooming rocketeer. I kick myself for missing most of the glory of past 50 years, but promise to do everything I can to protect and enrich the Estes legacy.

Thanks *so* much for all you've given to us rocketeers over the years! Many of us think of you fondly, even though we've never met you!
For the record, practically all of the rocketeers I knew who flew Estes rockets got them via mail order. On the other hand, Lee Piester's Centuri products were readily available at a small hobby shop and a drug store in southern Idaho back in the 1970's.
However, I couldn't help thinking that all of those Estes science fiction designs were *very* cool! I think the first Estes clone I built as a BAR was a BT-55 upscale Wolverine, and that design *still* holds a special place in my heart.
Thanks again for everything, and happy 50th to you and yours!

Flown twice after 7 PM on 7-29-2008. First flight was a 1/4A3-3T, second was a 1/2A3-2T, both in 18mm casings.
Many thanks to both of you for all the hard work you put into helping this hobby grow and mature. Although it was not until the mid 70s that I started building model rockets, those early designs became the spark that got me seriously into designing models in the last few years. I only hope these BARCLONE designs measure up to the standards you established early on, and maybe get another generation of young builders interested in model rocketry as you did for me.

In honor of Vern and Gleda!
Estes Rockets was a very big part of his life as a boy in the 70's. I couldn't wait for the new catalog to come in the mail so that I could pick out, order, build and fly a new favorite rocket each time I got the catalog.
Now as an adult I have introduced my son to rocketry. He is as hooked as I was and I've told him all about both of you.
You must be extremely proud of your amazing legacy.
I wish you all the best!

On the occasion of this 50th Anniversary NARAM, I offer my best thanks and wishes to you both.
Additionally, please accept my thanks for your perseverence during those very early years of this great hobby, and for your significant contribution to this wonderful miniature technology. Your steadfast commitment to Model Rocketry, and to the NAR, has inspired untold thousands to embark on a science and/or technology career, and for many more to experience the simple joy of seeing one's own handiwork take flight safely.
Thank you for your commitment, for the great innovative products, and for a volume of great memories.
With my very best regards

Thanks for a lifetime of rocketry! I started flying in 1963 in Loveland Colorado, and thought that because Estes Industries was from Penrose, that the rocketry hobby was just a Colorado phenomenon, but as I travelled across the country during the following 45 years, rocketry has followed me and been my constant companion! I flew the original Scout, Skyhook, Mars Snooper as a kid, grew into HPR (Vern, I met you at a Tripoli Colorado Launch in Hartzel, back in 1997 or so), and and am now back down to the Scout, and building my own birds. Well, the truth be told, I have a tremendous inventory of kits stashed away for 'retirement', and for getting 'other' kids interested in the hobby, and the lifetime passion. It is so cool to see young kids taking to this hobby just as eagerly and passionately as I did when I was their age, and they don't even have the nascent space program to fuel their fantasies!!!
Thanks Vern and Gleda!!

Thanks for giving me a lifetime of interest in model rocketry and connecting with my 12 year old son who has now caught the model rocket bug. You making safe model rocket engines made a difference for everyone. I have met some wonderful people through model rocketry and continue to each time we launch. I still remember that day I saw a rocket shoot toward the sky and I ran through the neighborhood to see what it was. It was an Estes rocket that a neighbor kid had. From that day forward I was hooked. Thank you for caring enough to do something so kids wouldn't hurt themselfs. It was a honor meeting you both at NARAM 50. My hats off for 50 golden years.

Flown at NARAM. The motor stuck, and it came back nose first just like when I was a kid what a perfect anniversary memory! I will display this model proudly.
It was a great idea for Carl to do this to commemorate the beginning of the hobby that has kept us so enthralled for 50 years. Thank You, Carl, for doing this, and thank you, Vern and Gleda, for your efforts over 50 years!

Did I ever mention that the Scout was the first rocket I ever saw launched? It broke a fin when it landed in the street, but by that night every kid in the neighborhood had an Estes kit.

Dear Vern and Gleda,
I am so thankful we have had this chance to honor both of you on this historic event. I want to thank you for giving me much more than just a hobby. I was introduced to model rocketry over 35 years ago. I bought my first Scout in April 1976 and I still have it and now retired to display. I feel certain as a young teenager that rocketry kept my idle time focused on something far more creative and out of trouble. Thank you for all of the fun times and great memories!
Best Regards,
Steve Cramer

at NARAM 50!
Just wanted to let you know how, upon returning to the hobby in 1990, and going to NARAM for the first time in 19 years, I was totally amazed to find that you still attended NARAM, and even more amazed to find you in the next room at the motel there in Dallas! I was a bit star-struck that year, but found the courage to get Vern to autograph my Alpha and Big Bertha (they've only been flown once since then!). The next year Vern helped me set up my Mega-Alpha up on the high power pad in Chicago, and that was absolutely the coolest thing that's ever happened to me in rocketry. I couldn't have been happier! Thanks again for everything!
