Text Box: A Semroc xKit™ is a kit designed for the expert modeler. It is a reproduction of the materials found in an early, historically significant model rocket kit. The parts are close enough that the original instructions can be used to construct the kit. Copies of original instructions of many early out-of-production kits are available online from several sources, the two best-known being Jimz and oldrocketplans.com. The xKit™ line is only available online and is intended for advanced builders that have experience with the instructions and designs from the early days of model rocketry.

What happened to the cc: Kits?

Our carbon-copy (cc:) kits were an experimentation with the “clone” market. We had much success with the experienced modelers purchasing online directly from us, but had far too many complaints from customers buying them from other sources. Many people buying from hobby stores do not have access to the internet and could not download necessary documents. Others buying from online sources or direct from dealers could not get the support they required with kits using early materials and construction techniques. We were getting far too many dissatisfied customers that thought they were getting a much more complete and polished product.

Why do it again?

We had even more requests from our customers that wanted “bags of parts” of old ex-kits and were willing to take responsibility for locating instructions and master 20th century construction techniques and, in some cases, have some patience with confusing instructions.

Will I be able to get them in hobby stores?

Not at first. If an xKit™ is popular, we will invest the hundreds of hours necessary to release it as a complete Semroc kit.

Do they have production numbers?

No. Since they are not complete kits, they will not be collector items. When we release them as Semroc kits, they will have numbers.

Who decides which kits become xKits™?

You do! If you want a particular kit, email us. We watch the forums and listen. We are working on many old kits now that have hard to find parts to complete that have been requested by our customers.
